Do you want to be a mass monster or build a streamlined, classic physique? Mass monsters typically rely on heavy compound lifts — squats, deadlifts, overhead presses, bench press — which thicken the core and supporting musculature but require a lower training volume due to the heavier loads. A streamlined physique relies more on isolation work and machines, minimizing spinal loading, which supports a higher training volume.
Your time frame matters too. If you're already lean, you can increase calories, push volume, and train aggressively. If you're carrying more body fat, you'll need a controlled caloric state to get leaner first — which naturally caps how much volume you can recover from.
